Target: Xi Jinping, President of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China
Goal: Make it illegal to log where panda bears live.
Panda bears are allegedly dying due to illegal logging practices. We need to take action to try and ensure these beautiful animals do not go extinct as a result of their home being chopped down.
Greenpeace Asia claims that 3,200 acres of forest trees have already been illegally cut down. An area in China, known as the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries, is where 30 percent of all panda bears live. Other endangered species also live in this area, including the clouded leopard, the snow leopard, and the red panda bear.
Greenpeace Asia believes the illegal logging is taking place because a loophole in the law allows small areas of the forest to be logged. Unfortunately, many businesses may be taking advantage of this exception to the rule in order to try and yield higher profits. Panda bears will likely go extinct if the law is not strengthened. To discourage others from illegally chopping down these trees, it is important that people who break the logging law are subject to severe legal consequences.
Sign this petition and demand that all loopholes in the law be closed and that people who break this law be legally punished. Panda bears and other endangered species do not deserve to lose their home because some people don’t care whether or not they live or die.
Dear President Jinping,
A great amount of logging is suspected to be taking place on protected land where panda bears live. If this logging does not stop, these gentle giants will likely go extinct.
Greenpeace Asia estimates that 3,200 trees have been chopped down in the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries. Illegal logging not only adversely impacts panda bears but also greatly impacts other endangered animals that live in the region, such as the snow leopard, the clouded leopard, and the red panda bear.
Although it is illegal to log in the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries, a loophole in the law may be the reason why such a great amount of logging in this area is taking place. The only way to better ensure that panda bears and other endangered animals won’t go extinct is to strengthen the current law and to make all logging in any such habitats illegal. People caught using illegal logging practices also need to be severely penalized under law in order to prevent others from doing this in the future.
It is for these reasons that I encourage you to demand that no more logging take place in areas where panda bears live and to also demand that anyone caught breaking this law face legal consequences. If we don’t do something now, these amazing animals may be gone tomorrow.
