The Cove: Help Save Japan’s Dolphins

The Cove: Help Save Japan's Dolphins

In The Cove, a team of activists and filmmakers infiltrate a heavily-guarded cove in Taiji, Japan. In this remote village they witness and document activities deliberately being hidden from the public: More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat.

The majority of the world is not aware this is happening. The Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. Cameras are not allowed inside and the media does not cover the story. It’s critical that we get the word out in Japan. Once the Japanese people know we believe they will demand change.

Send a letter to President Obama, Vice President Biden and Japanese Ambassador to the United States Kenichiro Sasae urging them to address this issue. Everyone who signs the letter will be able to have their name displayed in a widget that will be posted on top social networks, web sites and blogs in Japan. The widget will link to actions people there can take to make a difference.

Petition: Stop the Slaughter & Captivity

Japanese Government & Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA)

Dolphins are being slaughtered in Japan. They are being shipped to captive facilities around the world. Even the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) has expelled JAZA for sourcing dolphins from the cruel hunts, which violates the WAZA code of ethics.

When you sign this petition, you are pledging NOT to ever buy a ticket to a captive dolphin show; you are telling the Japanese government that the slaughters and trade in live dolphins is unacceptable and demaning that they halt the transportation of Taiji dolphins to JAZA facilities; you are demanding the release of the albino dolphin Angel, and refuting the idea that the Taiji dolphin hunts are traditional, as this has been proven false.

Earth Island’s Save Japan Dolphins campaign will be presenting these petitions to representatives of JAZA and the Japanese government at future events. Help us spread the word, sign and share.

Add Your Voice: Support Satoshi Komiyama’s Fight Against Dolphin Slaughter

Empowered By

The goal of Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Project is to put an end to dolphin exploitation and slaughter once and for all. Dolphins are regularly captured, harassed, slaughtered and sold into captivity around the world – all in the name of profit. The Dolphin Project works not only to halt these slaughters in countries around the world, but also to rehabilitate captive dolphins, investigate and advocate for economic alternatives to dolphin slaughter exploitation, and to put a permanent end to dolphin captivity.
